Tropical Disturbance Could Become Depression, Move Into Gulf

(Miami, FL)  --  A broad area of low pressure located over the southwestern Caribbean Sea is expected to become a tropical depression over the next couple of days.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center say it should move slowly northwestward and emerge over the southern Gulf of Mexico by the weekend.  Computer models indicate it could eventually make landfall anywhere from the Gulf coast of Florida west to Louisiana.

An Air Force reserve reconnaissance aircraft is scheduled to investigate the disturbance this afternoon, if necessary.
