North Miami Police Officer Testifies In His Own Defense During Retrial

A North Miami Police Officer testifies in his own defense during his retrial. Jonathan Aledda is accused of shooting the unarmed caretaker of an autistic man in 2016, thinking he was holding a gun that turned out to be a toy truck. On the stand today, Aledda says he fired 3 shots thinking the caretaker was in a hostage situation. Prosecutors wanted to know why he didn't wait and assess the situation more carefully. He says he didn't have the time, it was simply a matter of life and death. Aledda faces two counts of attempted manslaughter and one count of culpable negligence after a previous jury acquitted him on another count of culpable negligence related to shooting.
