LINKS: Sunday Deadline To Enroll In Affordable Care Act Insurance

Sunday is the deadline to enroll in an Affordable Care Act health insurance policy to cover someone in the new year.

Florida has traditionally lead the nation with Affordable Care Act enrollees, with nearly 800,000 already signing up for their 2020 policies as of end of last month.

About half of Florida's nearly 1.8-million current Obamacare enrollees live in Miami-Dade, Broward or Palm Beach Counties.

"Because the ACA is working, and has been working consistently, premium costs have actually come down for the majority of people in the state, " says Florida Covering Kids and Families Director Jodi Ray.

She adds more than 90% of those in Florida who sign up will quality for either tax credits, which bring down premiums, or cost-sharing which lower out of pocket expenses or both.

She stresses with the subsidies factored in, the average statewide premium is about $70 a month.

Even if customers like their current policies, Ray recommends shopping around, "because there are new plans and new insurers in the market in Florida, it's really beneficial to take the time and look what's out there."
