Even without Art Basel Miami Beach, the show must go on with Art Week Miami Beach beginning today.

Design Miami/ CEO Jen Roberts says the art community has come together with museums holding special exhibitions, more than a half-dozen fine art galleries that usually participate in Art Basel having pop-ups and Design Miami returning to its original home at the Moore Building in the Miami Design District.

Despite travel restrictions there's still an international flair; "We had some visitors from the UK. We've got some from Scandinavia exhibiting. In fact, they had to come through Mexico in order to get to the U.S. We do have galleries represented from Brazil; however, the proprietors of the galleries couldn't make it in, yet they still managed to find knowledgeable staff to man their booths."

She stresses coronavirus protocols are being followed. At Design Miami/, "It's an extended period of time than what we would normally do so that we can accommodate more people in a more comfortable controlled environment," says Roberts.

For those who are still concerned about large gatherings, the fine art and design pieces are more accessible than ever. "We have put all of the material from the show online, but not just individual items, we also have a navigation tool that allows you to experience the show floor in real 3D dimension and be able to click on each object to get further details on the piece."

Along with offering more about pieces, it also helps break down the intimidation factor. She feels new online components will be combined with the in-person experience as we look toward 2021 and beyond.
