DeSantis Offers Teachers Bonus from Federal Aid

PALM HARBOR -- Recently, Governor DeSantis asked the legislature to OK bonuses for all of Florida's first responders.

Now he wants to use federal funds aimed at COVID relief, for a little something extra for teachers.

Speaking at University High School in Palm Harbor Wednesday, the governor said Florida led every step of the way in getting as many students back to classrooms as possible, and he wants to say thank you to teachers and principals---in the form of a $1 thousand bonus payment.

Pinellas County Superintendent Michael Grego was among those on hand in Palm Harbor....to say thank you.... "We need to care for our students not only this summer... but next year... we are going to use this money wisely," Grego said.

The governor says he wants the legislature to act on his request as soon as possible, so the state can get the checks out. They'll go to an estimated 36-hundred principals and 180-thousand full-time pre-K thru 12 teachers.
