LINK: Speak Out On FPL Rate Hike Requests

Before Florida Public Service Commissioners vote on Florida Power and Light's request to raise base-rate revenue by more than $1-billion in 2022, the commission want to hear from you.

A dozen virtual service hearings about FPL's proposal to boost bills by about 20% over four years are scheduled between today and July 2nd.

Catalyst Miami's Zelalem Adefris believes coming out of the pandemic, now's not the time. She points to to April figures which show, "almost 650,000 Floridians struggled and made late payments on their bills."

The utility provider for more than 5.6-million customers in 43 Florida counties, says it is asking for its first base rate increase since 2016, to pay for additional solar projects and to continue provide clean and sustainable energy to customers. If granted, as proposed, customers would pay about $6.50 more per 1,000 kilowatt-hours a month in 2022.
