It's now costing more to park in West Palm Beach.

The city last week approved its first rate hikes since 2013 and those went into effect on Sunday.

City officials say their new plan will improve availability and convenience while "supporting a continued focus on affordable parking, safety, security and ease-of-use."

Among the changes, street meters at high demand will cost double, going from $1.25 to $2.50 per hour and be effective during all hours. That means late night parking is no longer free.
