This is scary! According to a Cape Coral police report, it starts with phone calls and texts from an unknown number. Then, a victim got a text message saying βyou owe some money.β Then the victim received pictures of dead bodies.
Christian Wartchow who is the CEO ofΒ CyberSecure IT Solutions, says, βMost scammers want you to take action quickly. So if you just take a step back, take a beat. Give it a minute, think it through, do you know this person? Have you ever talked to them before? Does this sound logical to you? If it smells fishy, it is fishy."
But it gets sicker! The victim called Cape Coral PD and told the officers that another number called them after they received the pictures. This time, the swindlers said theyβd show up at victimβs house.
βIf theyβre threatening to come visit you, even if itβs kind of an undertone threat, itβs always best to call to call law enforcement,β said Wartchow. Now I feel like the other kind of scammers are nice...LOL
Warn your loved ones and friends! You never know who can fall for this.
