Beyonce Shares Intimate Family Moments In New Documentary 'Making The Gift'

Beyoncé's Lion King-inspired album The Gift was personal for more reasons than one.

On Monday (September 16), ABC released Queen Bey's documentary Making The Gift, which gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at the making of her self-described love letter to Africa. In the hour-long special, Bey shared intimate, never-before-seen moments with her family as cameras followed the legendary performer, her husband Jay-Z and their children — Blue Ivy Carter, Rumi Carter, and Sir Carter — on a trip to Africa.

"Visiting countries in Africa, it's always an emotional experience for me. It feels like I'm making peace with a part of me that's yearning for my ancestral connection," Bey explained of the trip. "I was blessed to be able to relive some of the experiences that I've been very fortunate to have over the years with my entire family."

Footage additionally showed Bey sharing a number of sweet moments with her twins and oldest daughter. However, her recording session with seven-year-old Blue for "Brown Skin Girl" became one of the most memorable scenes of the night as the young star showed off her amazing vocal skills, singing the culturally impactful track, which earned her her first Billboard Hot 100 entry, beside her mother.

"When I see fathers singing 'Brown Skin Girl' to their daughters, to know that my daughter can have the same opportunities and feel confident and feel like she doesn't have to take her braids down and she can comb her afro out and she can glisten in her brown skin... That is why I make music," the 38-year-old entertainer explained of the song's importance.

Being that the album stemmed from Bey's love for her culture, roots, and family, the proud mom also opened up about how motherhood has changed her. "When you're a mother, there's a love that you experience with your kids that's deeper than anything you can imagine," she said. "The love is beyond Earth and beyond time and space, and it's a connection that will be constant."

Elsewhere in the doc, Bey showed the songwriters, producers, and team behind the Lion King: The Gift.
