Grammys' Rescheduled Date Conflicts With Screen Actors Guild Awards

The 2021 Grammy Awards postponed "music's biggest night" from January 31 to March 14 due to COVID-19 concerns, but that means that the ceremony is going to conflict with the 27th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.

SAG-AFTRA announced their ceremony date back in July 2020 and has since released a statement on the Recording Academy's new announcement. "We are extremely disappointed to hear of the conflicting date, March 14th, announced today for this year’s Grammy Awards telecast," the guild said in a statement, which was released on Tuesday (January 5). "We announced the same date for the SAG Awards last July with the intent to give the greatest possible scheduling consideration for other awards shows. We expect the same consideration from sister organizations throughout the industry."

Last year, the ceremonies faced a similar dilemma when the 26th Annual SAG Awards was announced for January 26, 2020, but moved up a week after the Grammys was announced for the same date.

Sources told Rolling Stone on Tuesday that the Academy previously planned to hold the 63rd annual award show without an audience or nominated artists, only allowing presenters and performers on-site. Trevor Noah was previously announced as the host for the show.
