I love those teachers who take the love and care for their students, above and beyond the classroom!
A teacher in Chicago, LaShonda Carter (right), was chatting on FB one night with on of her former students, Larresha Plummer (left), when she opened up about struggling as a young single mother, and mentioned that she was wanting to attend a job fair that Thursday, but had no idea how she would get there with her 3 week old baby..let alone take the baby to the job fair! That's when LaShonda Carter stepped up to the plate! There was no way she was going to let her former student take a newborn on public transportation as that's pretty risky for a newborn's health. She told her she would drive her to the job fair, and not only that, LaShonda stayed in the car with the baby the whole time, while the new mom was inside! When she was all done, Carter took Plummer to apply for WIC, a program for mothers in need to obtain nutrition education and grants.
"Sometimes as a teacher, our jobs go beyond the classroom... she's a young teenage mom, and she needs some help," Carter said on her post. "I'm gonna do what I can, as much as I can as an educator, but know I can't do it all by myself."
The new mom now has a job, and is planning on attending college this fall!
