It's becoming more apparent that some school facilities in Lee County that were hit the hardest may have to be completely destroyed and rebuilt after Hurricane Ian.

On Sunday, the School District of Lee County posted several photos on Facebook showing the different degrees of damage to the Sanibel School, Pine Island Elementary, and Fort Myers Beach Elementary.

In the photographs, standing water, downed trees, and elements of buildings scattered across campuses were most commonly seen.

One particular photo, taken at Fort Myers elementary, shows evidence of the devastating storm surge, in which the waterline of the flood was left just inches from the top of a pair of steel doors. MORE
