New York Lawyer Who Berated Spanish-Speaking Workers Apologizes

A Manhattan lawyer who was caught on camera berating two Fresh Kitchen employees for speaking Spanish to each other apologized on his law firm's Twitter account Tuesday, insisting that he's "not racist."

"To the people I insulted, I apologize. Seeing myself online opened my eyes - the manner in which I expressed myself is unacceptable and is not the person I am. I see my words and actions hurt people, and for that I am deeply sorry. While people should be able to express themselves freely, they should do so calmly and respectfully.

In his apology, Schlossberg insisted that he was not racist and footage of him ranting to the kitchen staff did not reflect the real him.

What the video did not convey is the real me. I am not racist. One of the reasons I moved to New York is precisely because of the remarkable diversity offered in this wonderful city. I love this country and this city, in part because of immigrants and the diversity of cultures immigrants bring to this country.

The midtown lawyer was caught on camera berating staffers at Fresh Kitchen last week for speaking Spanish. Schlossberg threatened to call immigration agents on the Spanish-speaking employees to "have each one of them kicked out of my country."

"If they have the balls to come here and live off of my money - I pay for their welfare, I pay for their ability to be here - the least they can do is speak English," Schlossberg can be heard ranting on the video.

Reaction to the video was swift with Schlossberg's law firm being kicked out of his office building, while lawmakers in New York petitioned the state court system to review Schlossberg's license to practice law and potentially revoke his ability to practice in the state.

This wasn't the first time Schlossberg was caught on camera making racist comments. Another video of the lawyer berating a man on the street as an "ugly f---king foreigner" and telling anti-Trump protesters he agreed with the president's comments that Mexico was sending "rapists" to the U.S.

Dozens of protesters rallied outside of Schlossberg's law firm on Friday while a Mariachi band played after a GoFundMe campaign hit its goal less than 24 hours.
