The real Johnny Appleseed brought apples, but mostly booze to the frontier
We've all heard the story of Johnny Appleseed right? He roamed the frontier, barefoot, wearing a pot on his head for a hat while planting acre after acre of apple orchards all over early, unsettled America right? Well, yes and no. It was less of a bid to plant delicious, edible apples and more about making booze and taking ownership of unclaimed real estate as Americans continued to move West. A hero? yes and no.
