The DeLorean is coming back
The DeLorean. Invented by famed ex car exec John DeLorean, funded by shady deals, eventually leading to old John's arrest for conspiracy to traffic cocaine to raise money for his floundering independent auto company. The car was also used in the "Back to the Future" movies and epitomized 80s cool. With its chrome exterior and wing-style doors, it certainly looked cool, but consumers found it lacking in many ways. It wasn't very mechanically sound and all that chrome and metal made the thing heavy as Hell and while some were made, the company went under and not a single DeLorean has been made since. That is, until now. There was a company in Texas that restored and serviced them years ago and that company was taken over by another person who obtained both the name and original factory parts is making more this year! The company has taken full legal advantage of a law which allows small automakers to build a limited number of historic replica vehicles without having to meet all of the modern costly safety requirements. The crazy thing is, this version of the DeLorean appears to be an electric vehicle. They posted to social media with the hashtags #ElectricVehicle and #Luxury, making it pretty clear what's up. It'll probably set you back quite a bit as the #Luxury implies, but I've always thought they were such cool cars. Check out more, including a teaser commercial here
