“Grandma” and “Grandpa” are going away

“Grandma” and “Grandpa” are going away

Grandma and Grandpa are going away. I don't mean like ACTUALLY going away...or maybe they are going somewhere, I don't know your grandparents. The point is, the WORDS "Grandma" and "Grandpa" are going away, mostly because people refuse to accept the fact that they are old. True. A lot of grandparents feel they are too "young" and too "hip" to be called something as elderly sounding as grandma or grandpa. "Grandma", "Nana" and "Nanny" are gone, in favor of names like "Glamma", "GoGo", or "Gammy". And grandpa isn't about to call himself that either, how about "Granddude"? (it's a thing) One woman from California said that when she became a grandparent in her 40s that she was too "cute and hip" to be called "grandma". Gone are the days of your grandmother having white hair, nylons and flat shoes too, many of today's grandparents still at least try to be young and cool, so traditional names don't seem to fit.
