Due to the heavy rainfall from Hurricane Idalia, several roads in Punta Gorda were shut down by the police early Wednesday morning.
The department announced that around 6 a.m., the bridges on 41 North and 41 South that connect Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda and the Beach Road causeway that leads to Manasota Key were inaccessible.
The department also reported that Marion Ave. and Cooper St. were flooded and closed to traffic.
